For those of you moving from The Raiser's Edge® to Blackbaud CRM™, here are four tips you might not know are crucial for success:
- Determine what works best in your RE world. It really helps to know what’s working well and what isn’t, so you can make confident decisions about how to use CRM. Processes, reports, codes, integrations, customizations, and other elements of your operations today should all be scrutinized and evaluated.
- Do not call it a software upgrade. “Upgrade” means moving to a more current release of the same software. CRM is not the same as RE; it has a different back end and a different front end. The invoice still comes from Blackbaud, but that’s where the similarity ends. Successful organizations don’t try to underplay what this really is, which is a conversion and implementation of a new software.
- Pay special attention to influencers. Each area of your fundraising team probably has an influencer, that person whose attitude can sway others’ attitudes. Their concern can unsettle your team, but their confidence can move everyone in the right direction. You don’t need to recruit influencers for project committees—they may love you more if you spare them. But personally showing them a few ideas, asking for informal reviews and asking them to weigh in on just a handful of key areas can build a lot of goodwill. Your subject matter experts can do heavy lifting, but personal rapport with influencers can make all the difference.
- Use JCA consultants to help the project. Project management, process re-design, conversion testing, reports and outputs development, etc. A lot will be expected of your team. Successful organizations let JCA’s experts, who know Blackbaud CRM and RE, carry some of the load.
