Pacific Northwest Ballet

Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB), a performing arts company, obtained JCA for their assistance in optimizing a newly acquired ticketing/fundraising system, Tessitura.  After carefully analyzing and cleaning the existing coding structure, the data conversion began.  PNB's choice to utilize JCA's project management service helped the marketing and development departments implement the newly converted software.  Read on to learn more about how JCA helped PNB with database management:

Founded in 1972 and under the artistic guidance of Kent Stowell and Francia Russell since 1977, Pacific Northwest Ballet has become one of the five largest and most highly regarded ballet companies in the United States. The Company of 49 dancers presents 90 performances each year of full-length and mixed repertory ballets. Pacific Northwest Ballet School, under the direction of Russell, is acclaimed as one of the top three ballet training institutions in the country.

In 2002, the marketing and development staff at Pacific Northwest Ballet began the process of unifying the picture of PNB’s relationship to its supporters. In an effort to integrate ticket sales with fundraising and marketing information, they acquired Tessitura, a new and integrated ticketing/fundraising system.

JCA was retained to complete a database analysis and implement the new software. We performed a comprehensive review of the current system (Raiser’s Edge®) and developed a detailed project plan and budget to guide the implementation. During the analysis, we identified database cleanup issues and set forth a plan to address those issues during the implementation. Action steps included a combination of in-house data cleaning done by PNB staff and programmatic database-wide reorganization provided by JCA. Ultimately, the analysis and conversion work resulted in drafting comprehensive account and gift coding schemas to meet the output requirements of PNB.

JCA guided PNB through the process of data conversion using our proven methodology. Data conversion uses a strategic process to gather the conversion requirements and follow-up documentation to ensure that all parties involved had an opportunity to approve the conversion process. Following the approval, JCA delivered structured test conversions and worked with PNB to thoroughly test and update the conversions as necessary. The process culminated in an integrated and efficient fundraising and ticketing system.
