| Lifespan is a not-for-profit hospital system with regional hospitals located in Rhode Island. When the five hospitals in Rhode Island came together to form Lifespan, they also merged their fundraising operations, including the conversion of five copies of FundMaster to one copy of The Raiser’s Edge®. The initial consolidation of operations and data conversion resulted in redundant data and coding in the database so Lifespan turned to JCA for help cleaning up and converting their data into a single system.
As part of a feasibility study for an upcoming capital campaign, Lifespan identified the need for a development operations audit. We reviewed their current processes and recommended changes that resulted in short-term improvements to the coordination of resources, particularly in relation to the speed and accuracy of gift processing and acknowledgements. We also identified, as a result of the audit, a number of long-term improvements to operational efficiency. Among them was a directive to clean the redundant coding and duplicates in the database. We worked together with Lifespan's data management staff to analyze problems and remap specific problem areas. After deciding how to remap the data, we built automated programs to extract, reformat and re-import the codes into The Raiser’s Edge®. As a result of our work with Lifespan, their redundant data and coding were eliminated, making entering and accessing information easier, faster and more reliable. |
