Kaylen Williams brings extensive knowledge to her client work at JCA, which includes a variety of projects such as CRM software implementation, needs analysis, development and documentation of policies and procedures, and more. Kaylen has expertise in several donor and CRM software systems and has worked with a variety of sizes and types of organizations, including The Detroit Institute of Arts, Boston Children’s Hospital, Cross International, New York Public Radio, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Texas State University.

Kaylen came to JCA via Davenport University, where she served as the Director of Annual Giving and, most recently, the Director of Prospect Research. Prior to her tenure at Davenport, Kaylen was the Membership Coordinator at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

Kaylen is passionate about her community and has volunteered for many nonprofit organizations. She currently volunteers for Justice For our Neighbors (JFON), an organization providing legal services to immigrants and their families. At JFON, Kaylen works as an intake specialist and assists clients with green card and visa applications. In the past, Kaylen has served on the programming committee for the Association of Fundraising Professionals of West Michigan and as a fundraising adviser to the Western Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance.

Kaylen received a BFA in Graphic Communication from Northern Michigan University and an MA in Museum Studies from Syracuse University. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, running, cycling, yoga, and backpacking.



Where do you work? Where are you from?

I’m from the Detroit Metro area, but now my home base is Grand Rapids, MI, where I work out of my home office.

What do you do at JCA?

I work as a consultant on the Professional Services team. I help clients find solutions that fit their business needs so they can focus on building relationships with their supporters. My work ranges from assessing business processes in order to implement efficiencies, optimizing CRMs, assisting with system selections, training staff and providing insight and support. I feel really proud about the work I get to do. I think non-profit organizations serve a critical need and I am really pleased that I get to be part of that.

What is your background? What brought you to JCA?

Before coming to JCA I had over 10 years of experience in various roles at nonprofits. I started my career as a membership manager for an art museum and then became the Director of Annual Giving for a small university foundation. My work with the university further advanced my knowledge in fundraising and development systems. I became skilled in database management and really enjoyed working with others to help solve problems. This led me to JCA where I get to broaden efforts to help a wider variety of non-profits.

What do you do outside of JCA?

Outside of JCA I enjoy anything to do with cooking, watching movies, reading, and weight lifting. I also really enjoy the outdoors and received a canoe as a gift from my soon-to-be husband this year. Once it is safe to travel, I will be headed to Italy and Japan.

What is one of your favorite stories of/with a JCA client?

I don’t have one particular story, but I do have a scenario that brings me joy. Often we have clients who are very new to using a system, or they have been working with business processes that they inherited which no longer suits them. I truly enjoy when I can help that client learn how to be more efficient and make their job easier. The feeling of relief that comes over them when they realize they don’t have to do something the hard way anymore, is what keeps me motivated.
